ms Amsterdam
The luxurious and formal style of Holland America’s Amsterdam is evident in every aspect of this lovely ship. Launched in 2000 and accommodating up to 1,380 passengers, this is an intimate atmosphere with elegant ambiance. Guests enjoy a choice of 17 accommodation categories with their cabins, ranging from suites to mini-suites and offering oceanviews in over 80 percent of the rooms.
Dinner in the formal La Fontaine Dining Room is an event. With rotating ice sculptures and exquisite cuisine, La Fontaine gives formal diners everything they ask for. Those seeking a more casual atmosphere will appreciate the Lido Restaurant’s buffet. The Odyssey is the onboard alternative restaurant, serving Northwest and Italian cuisine and charging a $20 per person fee. The Amsterdam provides a traditional dining schedule with four seatings each evening. However, they are gradually implementing their new “As You Wish” program which offers flexible times. The Amsterdam is slated to incorporate this program in the spring of 2008. Passengers will enjoy 2-3 formal nights, depending on the cruise, with no jeans or shorts allowed in the dining room at any time.
Entertainment is never-ending on the Amsterdam. There is the Queen’s Lounge, seating over 500 guests and providing Broadway style shows, as well as a movie theater, casino and the Ocean Spa, a premium fitness center and salon. Children’s activities include a video game arcade as well as supervised events and babysitting services in the evening.
